How to Select the Material of Piercing Jewelry

Material selection is important for body jewelry. The materials impact jewelry's appearance, texture, durability, and value. Here are some common materials:

1. Surgical Steel

Surgical grade stainless steel is the most common metal used for body jewelry and piercing. It's suitable for initial and healed piercings. While surgical steel is typically not recommended for those with nickel allergies. The stainless steel we are using is NICKEL FREE.

2. Titanium

Titanium is a common metal used for implants. It's nickle free and highly resistant to corrosion. Titanium is less likely to cause infections. Lightweight and ideal for larger sizes, it can be anodized into several different colours, and is ideal for both initial and healed piercings.

3. Gold Plated (PVD)

PVD (physical vapor deposition) is a process in which a base metal such as titanium or steel is coated. Real 24K solid gold is applied into surgical steel in a heated chamber under a high vacuum. An electric voltage is applied, and forms a plasma in the chamber and the introduction of various gases produces an ion bombardment. It then atomizes the 24K gold into tiny substances which are deposited into the jewelry. The result is a hardened layer which is biocompatible and can be autoclaved.

4. Wood

Wood jewelry is a natural, porous material that comes in a variety of types and colours. Each product is carefully sanded, polished and treated by hand. Wood jewelry should only be worn in healed piercings. Recommended to be removed before baths, showering, swimming and other water activities, and lightly oiled weekly to keep in good condition in order to avoid cracking. Do not store in extreme sunlight or hot temperatures.

5. Natural & Synthetic Stone

Rock and semi-precious stone jewelry is heavy and comes in smaller sizes. Rock or stone can break if dropped. Not recommended for new or unhealed piercings, and is only suitable to be worn for short periods of time. Must be cleaned with mild, antibacterial soap and water.
